Knull is an ancient and powerful cosmic entity within the Marvel Universe, often referred to as the God of Symbiotes. He predates virtually all known life and the Celestials themselves.
Born from the void before light, Knull despised the intrusion of creation. He forged the first symbiote, All-Black the Necrosword, from the living darkness, using it to slay a Celestial and wage war against creation.
He later created an entire race of symbiotes, using a portion of his living abyss, and unleashed them across the cosmos. These symbiotes bond with hosts, enhancing their abilities and often influencing their behavior.
Knull was eventually imprisoned within the symbiote homeworld, Klyntar (meaning "cage"), which was created by the other symbiotes who rebelled against his control. He remained trapped for millennia, slowly influencing the symbiotes from within.
His eventual escape and subsequent invasion of Earth marked a significant threat to the Marvel Universe, showcasing his immense power and influence over the symbiotes. He represents a primal force of darkness seeking to reclaim the void.
